FAQs
THE CITY
Is San Miguel de Allende safe?
Yes! San Miguel is known for its friendly atmosphere and low crime rate, especially in the historic Zona center where all our events will be hosted. Most recently the city was also rated #3 in Conde Nast Traveler's "Best small cities in the world". As with any new city, we recommend our guests exercise general safety tips while traveling.
How to navigate around San Miguel de Allende?
We recommend hiring a car service to get you from the airport to the city & back. However, once inside of San Miguel, you will find multiple means to get around, such as: walking, local taxis, & uber. All completely safe & accessible.
*Traveler Tip - Pack comfy walking shoes and sturdy dress shoes as the city streets are slightly hilly & all cobblestone
What is the weather like ?
October in San Miguel de Allende offers pleasant weather with comfortable temperatures. Expect warm days and cool nights. The city also sits at 6,400 ft. above sea level (LA is 305, Houston is 105). If you feel the effects of altitude sickness (nausea, drowsiness, or headache) the best remedy is lots of water, rest & tylenol.
*Traveler Tip - Don't forget to pack a jacket or shawl for cool nights + sunscreen for sunny days
THE TRIP
Will my cellphone work in Mexico?
This will depend on your phone plan. Inquire with your provider on setting up for international travel. If your phone is not set up for international travel, we recommend a short term sim card or utilizing WIFI throughout the weekend.
*Traveler Tip - Download Whatsapp
How to exchange money?
We recommend exchanging USD to MEX pesos prior to your arrival in Mexico as some local shops & taxis may be cash only. Many US banks allow you to order pesos directly through them to ensure the best conversion rate. However, credit cards are accepted at most places in San Miguel de Allende.
What do I need to travel to Mexico?
You will absolutely need a valid passport. Learn more about how to obtain a passport linked here.
Do I need to know Spanish?
No. Although San Miguel de Allende is predominantly a Spanish speaking city, it is also filled with many American ex-pats & hospitality staff that are bilingual.
THE WEDDING
Are kids allowed?
No. Although we love your littles, we have made the decision to host an adults-only wedding weekend. We know it's not always easy, but we believe it will make for a more memorable experience for everyone! We appreciate your understanding.
Can I bring a +1?
Please see your invitation for more information on bringing an additional guest.
What is a Callejoneada?
A Callejoneada is a small parade with the wedding party that takes place in the iconic Parque Benito Juarez. The parade will include live music, giant mojigangas (paper mache puppets made to look like the bridal couple) and some special treats! After a thoroughly good time, the party will walk together from the park to a rooftop bar for welcome cocktails & lite bites.
What is the Callejoneada dress code?
Dressy casual fits in bright fiesta colors! Be sure to wear shoes/heels that are walkable & comfy. Please refrain from wearing whites or creams in any capacity as this color will be reserved for the Bridal Couple.
What is the Wedding dress code?
Black Tie Gala. If you know us, you know that we LOVE a formal fashion moment. We are requesting that guests slay in a black tie ensemble that makes them feel like a million bucks (floor length gowns for the ladies & tuxedos for the gents). Please refrain from wearing whites or creams in any capacity (excluding tuxedo dress shirts) as this color will be reserved for the Bridal Couple.
Is there a room block?
No. Instead of blocking rooms at one hotel, we have opted to provide discount codes for some recommended hotels on the travel tips page here. Aside from hotels, SMA also offers a ton of gorgeous rentals for large parties. Be sure to reference the map to ensure your accommodation is located in a convenient spot.
